Defend Rojava Emergency Meeting

Saturday, January 31, 2026
at 5pm - 7pm

📝 Description

This is an emergency meeting to provide updates on the current situation in Roajava - North and East Syria, and discuss ways that we in Brighton can act in solidarity. The new regime in Syria, now with western backing, is turning all the might of its military forces against the Kurdish majority regions. These forces - largely made up of former Al Qaeda offshoot Hayat Tahrir Al Sham (HTS), with some soldiers even displaying ISIS patches on their military - are backed by Turkey. The city of Kobanî, a symbol of the defeat of ISIS, is now encircled by the Syrian military and the Turkish army. These attacks come just months after atrocities committed against other minorities, including the Druze in the south, and the Alawites in the coastal regions of Syria. People of Rojava are prepared to defend their land, their communities, and the democratic stateless system which has been carefully built over 14 years, based on women's freedom and leadership, an ecological society rooted in true democracy, and a plurality of languages, religions and cultures all living together.
